Mezquita Cathedral de Cordoba
History meets beauty at Mezquita Cathedral de Cordoba, a rare blend of two religions. The massive mosque-turned-cathedral is famed for its "forest" of interior columns, topped with traditional Islamic red and white striped arches. Built in 786 by Moorish settlers, the structure was converted into a Christian church in 1236. Built over the course of nearly 250 years, the structure combines various architectural styles, with decorative elements ranging from elegant to gaudy. Despite the presence of the cathedral, which was added to the middle of the original structure in the 16th century, most of the mosque remains remarkably well preserved. Regarded as one of the most accomplished monuments of Moorish architecture, the site reminds visitors of the glory and importance Córdoba held in medieval times. Our first time in Spain and this was a real highlight. Built as a mosque in 784 AD, it was converted into a cathedral when Christian forces under King Ferdinand III wrestled back control of Cordoba... more »

Even in an area of superlatives, this place is outstanding. Even better with an early entry ticket and the Covid bonus of few people. Whatever you do, make sure you have time to spend here. more »

A MUST SEE world heritage site. One place gathers Islamic and Christian heritage altogether. I’ve heard a lot about the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba, but as said, seeing is believing. Tickets are quite cheap, 11€. I did the reservation in advance online but it turned to be quite easy in February. So I think it’s a good season for visiting. There are machines that allows you to buy your ticket in case of crowds. I also purchased the audio guide for 4€. It was helpful with useful information. The only thing that I wasn’t able to do was to climb the Tower. It needs a separate ticket and has a lot of stairs.

Amazing place, some of the most ingenuous architecture around. Beautiful environment and not quite overrun with tourists yet so still a good site to see if in the area. Worth the special trip as the city itself is amazing too. Recommend a guided tour as it gives you lots of interesting information but you can come and go as you please as well.
