Shangri La, Honolulu

#6 of 25 in Historic Sites in Honolulu
Architectural Building · Hidden Gem · Art Museum
Admire the Middle Eastern and Indian architecture of Shangri La, formerly the private home of heiress Doris Duke. Today, the site is known as a center for Islamic arts and culture, and you can see metalwork, mosaics, vases, and textiles in brilliant colors. Inside the house, you'll also see rare artifacts in various temporary exhibits. Stroll the gardens to see a collection of tropical plants, as well as a pool and water terraces that flow into each other on a cliff overlooking the coast. Tours begin and end at the Honolulu Museum of Art and must be reserved in advance.
