Designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the building housing Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is as much a tourist draw as the collection of modern art located inside it. Named after and founded upon the private collection of its founder, the museum holds notable works by Picasso, van Gogh, Monet, Gauguin, and other modern masters. The building's spiral design recalls a nautilus shell, featuring continuous spaces that flow freely into one another. Wright ascribed symbolic meaning to the building's shapes, comparing its geometric forms to the ideas of infinity, unity, progress, and integrity. Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum reviews
Highway robbery. This place is not worth $25. There are more things to see in the gift shop than the whole exhibits combined.Im not exaggerating about that. This is far the WORST museum I’ve been to.... more »
From what I had learned about this museum in the past was that they used to have thousands of art pieces all along the walls of the spiral ramp. That is all gone. One floor had a very small... more »
Saturday nights 5:45-8 was pay what you wish to enter the museum. The line was long to gain admittance, but it moved fairly quickly. Recommendation is $10. We entered the museum and walked straight to the top. There were lots of visitors in attendance however there is plenty of room in between displays so the experience is quite lovely. The building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and was beautiful inside and out. We really enjoyed this visit before dinner.
My 1st time visiting the Guggenheim and it was a pleasant experience. This museum isn't as over-whelming as The Met and the Philadelphia Museum of art with the endless maze of rooms. Even someone who loves art like me can feel like the bigger museums are too much. And of course the architecture is cool, too.
