The Helsinki Cathedral, Government Palace, National Library of Finland, and main University of Helsinki building surround Senate Square and make up a collective vision of neoclassical design. This historical square boasts the architectural influence of Carl Ludvig Engel and is home to the oldest building in the city center, Sederholm House, built in 1757. Stroll the square to view these stately structures, stopping to take a seat on the cathedral's stairs and to examine the statue of Alexander II, a monument of Russian expansionism in Finland. The square hosts many events, including concerts and art exhibits. See Senate Square and all Helsinki has to offer by arranging your trip with our Helsinki travel route builder tool.

Overall some of the older bigger buildings to see in the area, several statues to view. Certainly a part of town that you end up going through, but definitely not special trip worthy.

One of my very favourite churches in Finland. It's light and peaceful yet so grand. Sometimes when I feel like escaping the city fuzz, I go inside, sit down and just breathe. Crazy beautiful spot in the middle of the city of Helsinki. All this whiteness, easy on the eye. I highly recommend to visit.

A must go for aesthetic beauty seekers. One of the best monumental architectures, this place has its very own taste type and flavour. This Senate square is well decorated, services persons are very well mannered and the place is well ventilated. Washroom is available and clean. Recommended. I went there before Christmas. It was calm and quiet. Wind of tranquillity was flowing. I felt refreshed. My wife was also with me. She was also very happy. Will go again only if I can manage time, money and will.
