Create an itinerary including Honolulu Zoo
The only zoo in the United States to be given a grant by a sovereign monarch, Honolulu Zoo houses over a thousand animals. King Kalākaua gave the land to the public to establish a large park for his people in the late 19th century. Animals thrive in the mild weather environment near the slopes of the Diamond Head; other animals live in recreated spaces that match their natural habitats. Notice the park's collection of artwork, particularly public sculptures that stand on the walking paths throughout. • The zoo is overpriced for the experience. The weeds/grass is overgrown,, the walkways are confusing, the zoo is small in size compared to the Pittsburgh or Cleveland zoo's I have been to. We did...

  • This zoo should be more inviting to seniors; with an admission discount, like it gives everybody else!

  • Wasn’t really sure what to expect but as a tourist but it was a great experience. Almost all of the exhibits were open. Animals were fairly easy to spot and had nice enclosures. Most of the paths were shaded which made it pleasant even in the heat of the day. While we were there a band was playing. It took us about two hours to visit the exhibits. We definitely could have spent more time at each so could see multiple visits being interesting to locals. A new hippo had recently joined the zoo which was fun to see. When we interacted with zoo staff they were friendly and answered all sorts of questions. Would absolutely visit again.
  • My daughter loves visiting the zoo since she was a wee little one. At 8 years old she still wants to come at least once a year, if not more. I too enjoy an annual visit. On the down side, I feel like the reptile exhibit has been under construction for ages now! Update: at age 12 (it's been a while since we've been here) my daughter still enjoyed the family outing to the zoo. The reptile exhibit was nice with some new creatures to seek and find. There were a few changes so our favorite pics at the zoo, we could not try to replicate but we did enjoy bringing up the memories we have while making new ones.
