Tour the ship that carried Franklin Delano Roosevelt across the Atlantic Ocean when you visit Battleship USS Iowa Museum. Learn about its role as the last lead ship of any class of U.S. battleships on the Atlantic during World War II, and view the ship's guns, the officer’s mess, and the captain’s cabin, which served as FDR's quarters when he was on board. Ask the tour guides--who are retired Navy officers--any questions you have. If you're visiting with children, bring them on the complimentary Victory the Dog scavenger hunt--in honor of the ship’s mascot--which is available at the start of the tour. Note that there are no restrooms or food on board, and many obstacles like uneven decking and steep and narrow stairs on the ship make it inaccessible for wheelchairs, strollers, and small children. You should visit this Museum. Great day showing respect to the Armed Forces. There are several Ship Museums but this is one of the best.

Took two toddlers (2 and 4) and they had more fun than I thought. There is a cute little game to keep the kids engaged while walking through the ship. 2nd time on a retired battleship and it is always so cool. Would definitely put on your list as one of those cool underrated California tourist destinations (A little pricey though). Also took my mom and she loved it!

USS Iowa is spectacularly maintained, with multiple below decks spaces converted to museum exhibits on the history of naval warfare and the ship herself. The self guided tour covers the entire superstructure and multiple lower decks, with numerous informational placards and video displays. The staff are friendly and helpful. I cannot recommend visiting her enough, whether you be a naval history aficionado or a neophyte, you will have a good time and probably learn something.
