Founded in 1988, the museum welcomes children of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers, and teaches them how to create drawings, collages, sculptures, textiles, and stop-motion animation. Located in the lively Hudson Square neighborhood, this bright, airy, creative hub doubles as an indoor playground. A broad gallery at the heart of the museum exhibits works by professional artists, but the museum also keeps a collection of international children's art dating back to the 1930s. Note that the museum does not allow strollers in its galleries, but has a stroller parking inside. We used to come here at least once a month for the arts and activities. Since the pandemic, they don't seem intent on ever reopening their facility. Instead they are offering "off-site and virtual experiences" for members. It's a shame their leadership made this decision, when other institutions, like the Manhattan and Brooklyn Children's Museums have been up and thriving for over a year and a half.
