Manhattan's military and maritime history museum, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum houses a large collection of craft that includes an aircraft carrier, submarine, NASA's prototype space shuttle, and a supersonic reconnaissance plane. Originally opened in 1982, the museum underwent a 22-year renovation of its facilities, reopening in 2008. You can access it by public bus or subway, and spend the day journeying through the evolution of sea, air, and space vessels. The Space Shuttle Pavilion showcases Enterprise, named after the starship from the popular "Star Trek" TV series and built to perform test flights in the atmosphere, along with artifacts, photos, audio, and films covering NASA's space shuttle program. Try your hand at flying a supersonic jet by visiting the virtual flight zone, designed with cutting-edge multi-sensory technology. • When you get in one single place a WW2 aircraft carrier, dozens of cool aircraft, a cold war submarine and a space shuttle it is very hard to to be an awesome visit! So much cool history in one...

  • One of the best activities for kids in the city. The carrier is magnificent, full of naval and avionics displays that allow you hands on experience flying fighters, landing the shuttle and more. The Enterprise is glorious, we are truly blessed to stand so close to such an important tool to mankind. Where else can you step foot onto a submarine? The views of the city are spectacular and underrated, despite the modern architecture your mind is transported to days past as you stand on the deck of an aircraft carrier looking up at Midtown. Incredible experience, not to be missed.
  • It's been a long time since I've come to this museum ... and has seriously been updated to be much nicer than it used to be. Very comfortable inside even on a super hot sunny day. My kids loved seeing the space shuttle on the deck above. I personally loved seeing the SR-71. Interactive exhibits inside the ship are perfect for my kids. Don't forget to visit the submarine next door! It's included in your admission! It's small but definitely worth the look.
