Cabrillo National Monument commemorates the landing of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo’s expedition to San Diego Bay in 1524. It was the first time that a European expedition set foot on what became the west coast of the United States. You can learn about the age of exploration and Cabrillo at the park’s visitor center. From here, it is a short walk to the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, restored to its 1880's appearance and now operating as a museum. The park also encompasses several former military installations, which you can see while exploring the area. Take time to appreciate the monument’s superb views of the harbor, city skyline, and Pacific Ocean. If it is a clear day, you might even see the Coronado Islands. • We were hoping to experience the low tide pools but did not get it timed right. However, the area is beautiful and well worth the visit! We plan on going back some day.

  • Amazing place close to San Diego. Amazing views of the city, ocean, coast, and more. Really nice staff. The bay side trail was awesome and only 2 miles. Perfect for a half day visit. It was 20 dollars to get in. Would love to go back to try other trails and spend more time in the museum.
  • Incredibly beautiful views and just enough history and walking to keep the kids interested. We aren’t from the area but wanted to learn a bit about San Diego history. This was the perfect place to take in the amazing views and learn about some of the first explorers in the area. We took the shortest trail and saw the views of the kelp forest, checked out the lighthouse and walked the small exhibit area. We paid $20 to park and had the ability to come back for a week with the receipt. Highly recommend!
